       History

Our Beginning

*Operation Oasis Healing Through Love* was created in 2008 by Krystle Martinez, a licensed massage therapist and owner of the Mediterranean Day Spa. Operation Oasis was created to care for our U.S. military soldiers and their families who both have served their country unselfishly, by giving their lives to protect the citizens of the United States. Krystle’s brother died as a result of complications from the Viet-Nam war. This inspired her to provide a Haven (Operation Oasis) for the wounded soldiers returning from overseas conflicts. Witnessing what the soldiers were going through upon their return to the U.S. for medical care, it prompted her to donate her spa services to the soldiers and their families. She was so moved by their courage and will to live, that she vowed to aid in their recovery by introducing a Couples Therapy Training Program. Thus, Operation Oasis Healing Through Love was born. The soldiers and their families are her passion, and commitment for life!

Why We Are Necessary.  Traumatic injuries both, physical and mental are very stressful for the injured, their loved one, the care givers and the support staff.  Operation Oasis works to reduce this stress.  Through therapeutic and deep tissue massage, massage couples training, and other spa services, we work to enrich the family relationship, enhance their marriage and relationship commitment.  We find that their injuries are treated in an outstanding manner, but there is simply not enough staff to support the emotional, mental and financial needs of the injured and particularly their families.  We offer an additional source of support and will work to get them support from all of the established agencies without duplicating the efforts of those activities.  When we visit the hospital we are always on the alert for something that we can do to make their lives easier. It is often the simple things that make a big difference.

Massage and the Injured Soldier
Why is massage therapy such good medicine? Massage therapy promotes lymph, blood and oxygen  movement to the various organs and tissues in ways that normally don't happen in the bodies of most people. This is especially true for those who can't properly exercise. Massage therapy is critical for maintaining their  health.  I can't emphasize enough the importance of what I call the "touch factor". The testomonials from the wounded soldiers in this brochure validates the remarkable aid massage has had in their rehabilitation. There's something almost magical about the human touch, and its qualities can't be measured with scientific instruments. Researchers  and medical personal long ago learned the powerful positive  physiological effects  a human touch has in relaxation.   Massage and reflexology therapy by the spouse or significant other has a demonstrated positive effect in reducing stress, improving blood circulation and stimulating nerve endings. Over 200 soldiers testomonials have been posted to: www.Mediterraneandayspa.com
